It’s fashion’s biggest night (for those of us not in sweats on the couch) and literally everyone is invited...except for Project Runway alum Tim Gunn who is, somewhat randomly, banned from the 2024 Met Gala. Why, you ask? He and Anna Wintour have some unresolved beef.
Tim opened up about his drama with Anna back in 2016, saying, “It is very true. It is a crazy story, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s a very matter-of-fact story. I was asked what is the most unforgettable thing I’ve ever seen in fashion and I said, ‘It’s easy. It was watching Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two bodyguards—two big hulking men—from a fashion show.’ All hell broke loose. It was insane. We’ve had an open war ever since.”
This was obviously quite a while ago, but Tim hasn’t been spotted on the Met Gala red carpet since so...it seems safe to assume his ban still stands and he won’t show up. But on the plus side: Tim is in good company! Other celebrities on the snubbed list allegedly include Amy Schumer, Tina Fey, Rachel Zoe, and even Donald Trump.
And in case you’re wondering: Yes, one can get unbanned from this event! At least that’s what happened with Gwyneth Paltrow, who attended the Met Gala in 2017 and 2019—despite the fact that she said the event “sucked” in 2013.
