After we devoured The Diplomat and binge-watched The Night Agent, Netflix is back with a new spy drama for us to get our teeth into: FUBAR. But what does the acronym actually stand for?
The eight-episode action comedy stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a CIA operative on the verge of retirement, who learns his beloved daughter has also been living a secret double life, and so he's forced to go back into the field for one last job.

It's safe to say things then get pretty chaotic for the father/daughter duo, which is probably no surprise considering what FUBAR means.
According to Techopedia (via Mens Health), the term 'FUBAR' was popularised by American soldiers during the Second World War, and means "f***ed up beyond all recognition," or alternatively, "f***ed up beyond all repair." The work-safe version appears to be "fouled up beyond all repair."
It's pronounced fu-bar, and essentially means being thoroughly confused, disordered, damaged or ruined. Blimey.
*SPOILERS* In the Netflix show, the term is actually only used once during the season finale. In it, the spies have their secrets compromised and their true identities revealed, and so they must go on the run. Luke declares the whole situation as "FUBAR".
