It’s official: The titles of Taylor Swift’s 1989 vault tracks have been revealed, all thanks to a quick Google search. Swifties broke the internet once again in an attempt to decode the names through a puzzle game provided by the search engine. According to Google Trends, Taylor quickly became the most searched topic on September 19—and let’s be real, you were already typing her name into the blank space search bar to see why she was hanging out with a newly divorced Sophie Turner. So you might as well play the game and check out the vault track titles while you’re there. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
On September 20, four of the five tracks were officially revealed upon googling Taylor’s name. That same day, Taylor revealed the final track as “Slut!”—a title that fans guessed correctly. The vault track titles are as follows:
- “Slut!”
- “Is It Over Now?”
- “Now That We Don’t Talk”
- “Say Don’t Go”
- “Suburban Legends”
“Thank you for playing along, sleuthing, puzzling and making these reveals so much chaotic fun (which is the best kind of fun, after all),” the Grammy winner wrote in her social post revealing the final track.
Before the titles were revealed, a Google blog post outlined the rules of the game, which was pretty much a team effort to unravel the titles of the new songs by collectively solving 33 million (!!) puzzles. Here’s how it works:
Search for “Taylor Swift” in the Blank Space (ahem, a Search bar). Click on the blue vault and solve one of the word puzzles. It may take a second, since there are 89 puzzles to get through (á la “1989 (Taylor’s Version)”)—don’t say we didn’t warn ya! But nothing lasts forever. You’ll be helping Swifties around the world get out of the woods (or unlock the vault) as everyone collectively solves 33 million puzzles. And that’s how it works, that’s how you get the vault track titles!Because the vault tracks on Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) were simply announced with a social post, it makes total sense that Tay went back to her mastermind ways this time around. In her initial announcement about the upcoming rerecord, she revealed that there would be five vault tracks that are “so insane.”
Come September 19, she encouraged Swifties to play the 1989 puzzle game when the feature was fully available on the search engine. “You can tell me when the *search* is over…if the high was worth the pain. 😎,” she playfully wrote on Instagram, referencing her track “Blank Space.”
And because Taylor Swift fans have lost any ability to chill since she revealed she has hefty PDF documents full of Easter eggs, they crashed Google in an attempt to solve multiple puzzles in one sitting. This level of dedication is seriously something to aspire to, people!
Google even posted a tweet to let fans know that they’re in their “fix-it era” and that developers were working on getting the search engine back up.
It’s a big day for those in their personal 1989 era!
