Big news, Disney fans! A Wizards of Waverley Place reboot is officially in the works featuring Selena Gomez and David Henrie and we could not be more excited to be back with the Russo family.

The Disney Channel sitcom first aired between 2007 and 2012, and followed a family of wizards living in New York City, with Selena starring as Alex Russo. Now, a sequel about the grown-up wizards is on its way and our childhood selves are literally screaming!

When was the Wizards of Waverley Place reboot announced?

The news of the sequel dropped on 18th January, 2024, with David Henrie, who played Justin Russo in the series, taking to TikTok to post a compilation of their old episodes along with a script for the pilot episode, written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas.

"The Russo's are excited to become apart of your family, once again, but we've grown 😊 2024, the year magic comes back! 🪄" he wrote. SO exciting!

What is the Wizards of Waverley Place reboot about?

So, the original series concluded with Alex becoming the family wizard and now, the sequel is set to follow her brother, Justin (played by David Henrie), plus his family with Selena making an appearance.

According to Deadline, the synopsis is as follows. "It picks up after a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin Russo has left his wizard powers behind, opting for a normal, human life with his wife and two sons.

"But, he gets a surprise when a powerful young wizard in need of training shows up at his door… and Justin must embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World."

Say hello to some familiar faces plus a new generation of wizards, as here is the cast who have been confirmed so far:

What is the release date for the Wizards of Waverley Place reboot?

Currently, there's no exact release date confirmed but David did reveal that we can expect to see the series in 2024.

Then, in March, Disney confirmed that the reboot will arrive in Autumn. It can't come any sooner!
