It's been nearly a week since Heartstopper season 2 dropped on Netflix, and we may have binge-watched the season one or two (ok three) times since its release.
The second season has introduced us to new characters (we're big Naomi fans), an iconic soundtrack and Kit Connor speaking French.
The fourth episode sees Kit's character Nick Nelson show off his impressive French speaking during a school trip to Paris.
While fans of the original graphic novels will already have known Nick is fluent in French, it may have come as a surprise to series viewers, who watched Nick expertly order ice creams in French. Well his dad is French after-all.

But while Nick is fully clued up on his French, is Kit Connor who plays him actually fluent in French? Here's everything you need to know.
Can Kit Connor speak French in real life?
In short, non. Kit Connor cannot speak French fluently.
During the initial audition process for Heartstopper Kit was asked by producers about his French, which he said was "here and there". And so when it came to filming season two, Kit was terrified of taking on the challenge of speaking French.
Luckily, ahead of his French-speaking scenes Kit worked with a French teacher to master the lines and perfect his French accent.
"There wasn't that much French to speak in this season, but it was a lot for me," he explained in an interview with Netflix done before the SAG-AFTRA strikes. "We had this French teacher who was really lovely, but also a little bit scary, I think because I was so bad at French. We focused on trying to make me sound like I knew how to speak French as much as possible. Just seeing how far we could go with that."

Netflix
The initial scene with the ice cream cart was planned to include a line about Nick's French, in which the ice cream vendor was going to say, "Oh, are you English? Your accent is perfect." Kit said this line in particular gave him "nightmares" but thankfully the line was changed.
"In the script, they originally said, 'Oh, are you English? Your accent is perfect.' And that was in my nightmares," Kit explained. "The French fans of Heartstopper are going to see that and go… At least if it was a little bit off, they could go, 'Yeah, but he's English.' But if they say that my accent is perfect, then it would be rough. Luckily, when I watched the show, I saw they changed that line to, 'Your accent is very good.' So that suddenly made me feel a lot better about my accent."
We may be a little biased, but we thought Kit's accent was très bien.
