Cameron Diaz speaks out after being named in Jeffrey Epstein documents

Cameron Diaz never met Jeffrey Epstein or had any association with the convicted paedophile, her rep has said, after she was named alongside others in newly unsealed papers.

The court documents about Jeffrey Epstein and his inner circle have been released as part of a legal case involving his former partner and 'recruiter', Ghislaine Maxwell.

More than 100 people are named in the newly unsealed papers but not all are accused of breaking the law, some are witnesses or have made allegations themselves. Other names are just mentioned in passing as part of the legal proceedings. Many names were already known by the public.

In a deposition, Johanna Sjoberg, who has accused Epstein of sexual abuse, claimed he practised "name-dropping" celebrities. She also said she had not met Diaz, whose representatives shared a statement with outlets including E! on 5 January.

"Cameron never met Jeffrey Epstein, nor was she ever in the same place as him or had any association with him whatsoever," the rep said, "regardless of the fact he may or may not have mentioned her name or implied that he knew her."

Elsewhere, in the papers, Prince Andrew is named and is referenced as being accused of groping somebody – a claim he strongly denies.

Amongst the notable figures mentioned in the court documents are Donald Trump (who is once again hoping to run for President), Michael Jackson and fellow former POTUS, Bill Clinton. When asked about Epstein in 2019, Clinton said he'd had no knowledge of Epstein's crimes.

Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence for conspiring to sexually abuse minors and Epstein died in prison while awaiting federal sex-trafficking charges in 2019. His death was ruled as suicide.

Prior to that in 2008, he had been convicted of procuring a child for prostitution and of soliciting a prostitute and served a 13-month sentence.

The 900-page document was much anticipated prior to its release, but according to a report from the BBC doesn't contain any new 'bombshells' about Epstein.

In the deposition, Maxwell is quoted as saying she remembers Prince Andrew visiting Epstein's Island in the US Virgin Islands once and that "there were no girls on the island at all. No girls, no women, other than the staff who work at the house".

However, it's said that further documents will be unsealed and made public over the coming days.
