Are the Love Is Blind weddings legally binding?

After a truly chaotic season (and possibly its best yet) Love Is Blind season six has reached its dramatic conclusion with the finale episode dropping on 6 March, and finally revealing which couples made it down the aisle and said "I do" at the altar. Spoiler alert: you're in for a rollercoaster of emotions during the hour and a half episode.

And when it comes to that all important decision, just how legal are those marriage ceremonies if both parties choose to tie the knot and say "I do"?

Similar to Love Is Blind, Married At First Sight UK contestants have previously shared details on how legal their weddings really are. So, what's the deal for Love Is Blind?

It turns out the LIB marriages *are* genuinely legally binding, according to the show's creator.

Series producer Chris Coelen previously told Bustle in 2020, "If they choose to get married, yes, it's a legally binding marriage." There you have it!

This explains why there's also that added pressure of saying yes, and may explain why some couples choose to continue dating each other, but not officially tie the knot. After all, if you get an official marriage, and it doesn't work out, you're going to have to get an official divorce, and some of the contestants may not be ready to commit to the possibility of that.

Asked whether contestants pay for their weddings themselves, Coelen explained, "Of course production supplies some of the basics but because these are their real weddings, it's up to them as to how to spend their money."

Meanwhile, former contestant Lauren Speed (who married husband Cameron Hamilton in 2018) told Refinery 29, "We definitely did [get married]. That's the part that was so scary for me. This is a real legally binding marriage. This is not for TV. This is our life."

OK, getting to know someone without actually seeing them is a big enough of a deal. But an official marriage? Intense stuff.
